Andy By Sharon…
Throughout the journalistic side of my career I have often been asked to write about other photographers. I love doing this. I study their work and write about what I see. To write about Andy however is slightly different, because to write about Andy I need to write about what he sees each time he picks up his camera. That isn’t easy – his brilliance as a photographer is such that only he sees the picture that is forming in his minds eye as he presses the shutter release and so as a writer is is hard to define.
I know that how Andy “sees” things – whether it is the light, the image, the subject, the framing or perhaps all of these - Andy sees beyond what is in front of his camera. It is a rare talent which enables him to take something quite ordinary and turn it into something quite spectacular. This translates into some amazing wedding photography – as you can no doubt see from our online portfolios. But it doesn’t end there.
When Andy “shoots” an image he knows immediately where and how it is going to fit into the album design to best tell the story of your wedding day. In effect, although not consciously done, Andy shoots for album. A look through the sample albums in the portfolio section of our website will illustrate exactly what I mean. Every single picture shown compliments the next to perfection.
Being a Wedding photographer is far more than the ability to see and capture an image – it is the skill to know when to ask for that image and the discretion to know when to capture unobserved the events of the day as they unfold. It also requires not only the interpersonal skills to deal with the bride and groom, their family and friends when they are feeling nervous and perhaps reluctant to have the photograph taken but also the ability to create a pleasing image with great expressions whilst under the inevitable time constraints and pressure that are usual on a wedding day. Andy is one of the few photographers I have met who has this ability – as you can see from our website.
My journey with Andy has taken us to many countries and we have met many lovely couples along the way – a great number of whom have turned into personal friends and whose growing families we are now photographing. He still “wows” me with his photography and each wedding we photograph I am always bowled over by the moments and expressions he captures which all go into telling a story. I will never tire of seeing his pictures. The world as he sees it is simply beautiful.
Sharon By Andy…
When I met Sharon she opened up a whole new world to me. Through her, my photography began to be seen and I began to see my photography differently. She read things into my images which I didn’t even know were there and whilst I can see a picture or an image suddenly I began to see a future. To that point I had been working for someone else and frequently didn’t even see my finished photos – or the couple’s reactions to them. What a lot I had missed!
She took my pictures and like the notes on a sheet of music manuscript turned them into a symphony. I don’t honestly think anyone else could have done that. She has a way about her of making things special. She does it, unaware, with virtually every wedding couple who books us. Allow me to explain.
Her enthusiasm and enjoyment of what she does spills over and is infectious. It might be just a simple email to the bride along the lines of “How is the planning coming along…?” or email chit chat about the wedding colour scheme, help in recommending trusted suppliers – simple little things that she does every day without thinking but making a difference to the other person. So many times a bride or couple will say to me “It’s lovely to feel that someone is as excited about my wedding as I am.”
On the wedding day itself she ensures with her impeccable organisational skills that everything runs like clockwork. She keeps everyone to time and makes sure that we have the people we need assembled ready for any requested formal pictures. She liaises with the venue and registrar/vicar to make sure everything runs smoothly – with only one hitch taking place! In short she brings it all together beautifully and she does it with such skill that she just steers everyone seamlessly through the day without anyone noticing – until they stop and think about it afterwards!
Sharon is first and foremost a people person, but she is also a very accomplished photographer in her own right and has won many awards to date. She has a special talent and amazing vision for a photograph. I love working with her. She is my inspiration.
